Design
Creative inspiration can come from anywhere, it's the initial seed , the starting point for all good design. Taking that original idea we build on it, developing it through sketches, mock ups & material allocation. Throughout the design development stage we ensure that the furniture use stays front of mind.
At Craftsman Furniture Studio we place equal importance on functionality, aesthetics & durability, we build beautiful furniture that still has a daily use & will serve a purpose for many years.

Collection Inspiration
The inspiration to create the New York 30 collection comes from an enjoyment of the ocean & the idea of using only wind power to propel a vessel across it.
In particular, the elegant simplicity of early to mid 1900's sailing boats.
A favorite of these, the New York 30, was a boat designed & built for the New York Yacht Club in 1904 - 1905 by Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. Bristol, Rhode Island New York.
When sitting down to expand on our NY30 idea we started by listing everything above the water line that makes these vintage boats so effortlessly beautiful. The fluid curve of the hull sitting statically in the water is the first thing that draws the eye, it's a major part of the collections dna.
The symmetry of the raised cabin exterior, expertly crafted from Mahogany, with it's bronze port holes brings a sense of warmth & detail to our designs. The towering timber mast inspires vertical elements within our designs which radiate a sense of connection & strength. Under the water line is where the less formal design ideas arose. Our interpretation of the keel fin & rudder shape create interesting & calming forms within the collection.
”New York 30” Collection
Presenting our “New York 30” collection, a body of work that we poured ourselves into over many months to create a sweet of beautiful & functional furniture, of this we are extremely proud. The inspiration for this collection comes from maritime history, in particular the timeless elegance of the New York 30 sailing boat.
A naval architect & mechanical engineer, these boats were designed by Nathaniel Greene Herreshoff for the New York Yacht Club. There were only 18 of these beautiful 30ft sloop rigged sailing vessels built for a new day racing class. A a true endorsement of the Herreshoff design & craftsmanship there are still several NY30's sailing today.
